The Commissioning and Blessing of the New Multipurpose Building
From the moment we approached the JPSS campus, and our eyes caught a glimpse of the new Multipurpose Building towering over the tree tops, our eyes teared up and our hearts were overwhelmed with joy. Where were we?? Surely, this can’t be rural Chelekura??
And, although we had been receiving photos of the various stages of the building process for over a year, we were not prepared for the enormity and grandeur this building brought to the JPSS campus and the community of Chelekura! It was an unbelievably gorgeous sight to behold!!
The Blessing and official Commissioning of the new Multipurpose Building and New Kitchen took place on Saturday, July 29, 2023. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day, with many special guests attending. Those guests included Fr. Michael Kibiye, Pastoral Coordinator from the Archdiocese of Tororo, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta, Fr. John Chrysostom Oduc, Fr. Henry Bahati, Fr. Rogers Wekona, several other clergy, Moses Bwayo Head Master, teachers, students, and several other local dignitaries and groups from the community.
The Blessing of the MPB and the New Kitchen preceded the commissioning with Fr. Michael and the other priests blessing them with Holy Water. The new Kitchen is now known as “The Comerford Family Kitchen”.
The Ribbon-cutting ceremony and the Commissioning of the MPB then took place. The ribbon-cutting was performed by Msgr. John Kauta, Paul, and myself.
The Commissioning signifies that the engineer has completed the construction of the building and that everything is in working order and ready to be handed over to the new owners. The engineer, Vincent Mutyaba handed over the keys to Fr. Michael, and the MPB, now known as “Berrigan Hall” was officially OPENED!!!
We all processed into “Berrigan Hall” where Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael and con-celebrated by the other priests.
It was absolutely beautiful. The music was provided by the student choir, who sounded like angels. It surely was one of the most memorable and rewarding days for us.
Wish you all could have been there and seen how much all your generosity has meant to this rural village of Chelekura and the students at John Paul Secondary School!! It was powerful!!!
