JPSS University Scholarship Update
The first year of our University Scholarship program has come to a successful close with the completion of classes and finals by our first 4 beneficiaries. We’re happy to report that Bruno, Silver, Meridah and Joshua all performed well in academics and with the help of our mentor Sharon, made a smooth transition into University life. Outside of classes, they’ve participated in groups and church activities including sports, church choir, church sacristan, Bamasaba (tribe) association, and the debate club.

Mentor Khabuya Sharon visits the students while they are at campus.
The scholars and their parents/guardians are meeting at JPSS before the beginning of the next semester to share experiences and ideas for how to best continue to support these students. Sharon has also arranged for the students to provide help on the JPSS campus performing tasks, assisting with classes and overall beginning their journey to ‘paying it forward’ for the benefit of JPSS and the local community. Future assistance that has been discussed includes starting an animal farm at JPSS, providing marketing assistance for the school, working with our engineer on construction activities and coming back to teach at the school. Bruno, Silver, Meridah and Joshua have also discussed coming together to fund another student in this program once they have started in their careers. We’re very happy with their performance and dedication to making sure others have access to the opportunities they have.

Looking ahead, our 2024 S-6 graduates have received their UACE test scores and are applying to the University programs now. Applications for the 2025 JPSS University Scholarship Program are being accepted and we expect to have around 25 applicants. We’re happy to announce that five generous donors have stepped forward to fund the 8 scholarship slots that will be provided to our top candidates this year.

The sponsorship program is below. Under this program, sponsors choose one of the following sponsorship streams to provide a full University education for a student.

Funding covers full tuition and functional fees for a student for their full University education (3-5 years), as well as a laptop which is required by most Universities. The student/parents/guardian are responsible for living expenses.
We hope to continue to grow this program and admit more students each year. Our students are so very grateful to not only have access to the amazing education at JPSS, but now also a chance to attend University, often as the first person in their family to do this.
“Gone are the days when our students at John Paul SS finished high school and turned to the streets with no idea what to do next, due to the high University tuition bill that could not be met by their parents. But these are the days that learners are studying with a lot of effort to perform well to get a JPSS Graduate Scholarship and make their dreams come true. This has not only motivated other learners but also fulfilled many dreams that would not have been realized without this program. God continue blessing the work of your hands.”
Khabuya Sharon, JPSS Graduate Scholarship Program Mentor,
