Announcing – the JPSS University Scholarship Program!
In 2024, Friends of John Paul School in conjunction with JPSS Administration including Headteacher Moses Bwayo and the JPSS Board of Governors, implemented the JPSS Graduate University Scholarship Program to offer qualified JPSS graduates scholarships to continue their education at a qualified University or technical school.
The scholarship offered will include payment of Tuition and Fees for each semester for accepted candidates. In 2024, Tuition costs at advanced education institutions (Universities, Colleges, and Technical Training) can range from $300 to $2,500 per student per year (two terms). Like the U.S., Ugandan Universities typically have a term starting in August and a term starting in January. Parents/Guardians must agree to pay for boarding, food, medical care, books and incidentals for their student, and demonstrate ability to fund this. The number of scholarship slots available will be determined by February 1st of each year. For the 2024 admissions year, four Scholarship slots are available.
The Scholarship Program will utilize a ‘pay it forward’ concept in asking the recipients to return and provide service to JPSS, or ultimately support another student in attending the school, thereby instilling philanthropy in our young people and ongoing benefit to the school and local community.
Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed A-level studies (S5, S6) at John Paul Secondary School
- Family residence located within 100 Km of JPSS
- UACE score not less than 10 points for 2024 admission (to be determined each year)
- Admitted to public Ugandan University or Advanced Education Institution in an approved field of study
- Demonstration of financial need
- Has not received a Government district or any other scholarship/bursary
- Parent/guardian and student must be willing to enter into a 3-way contract with JPSS and abide by the contract stipulations.
Students who meet these criteria are to submit their applications, along with proof of acceptance into University. The JPSS Academic subcommittee of the Board of Governors will meet to review the applications and select those chosen to receive the scholarships.
Khabuya Sharon, JPSS graduate and recent University graduate with a degree in Agriculture, was identified and chosen to provide in-field mentoring to the Scholarship Recipients. This includes guiding students on what to expect in their University environment, tips and strategies for success, monitoring school attendance and performance and maintaining a progress file for each candidate. She will be visiting the students at their respective schools. She will also serve as a mentor to the current S-6 students at JPSS as they determine their continuing education and careers.
For the University year beginning August 2024, we are very pleased to announce the following four recipients:
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they embark on a journey they never thought they could take, a University education!
