John Paul Secondary School Board of Governors
We are very excited to announce the induction of the new Board of Governors for John Paul Secondary School! We welcome these twelve talented individuals who will actively help guide JPSS to enable its vision: to produce citizens to be the light of the world.
Mr. Okuma John Francis, the Chairperson of the Board, holds a Masters Degree in Education Policy Planning and Management, and spent his career teaching and then as Headteacher, finally serving as the Director of Education for the Pallisa district. In fact, many of the individuals on the board have prior teaching experience, as well as school administration experience.
Others bring a mix of financial and human resource experience. Our local council representatives bring knowledge of students and families and relations with the local community. And we are happy to have two individuals who have been associated with JPSS from the very beginning, Ms. Cissy Kagimu who has worked with Paul and Nancy since day 1 as Principal Administrator at U E Conference under the Catholic Church and Msgr. John Kauta’s right hand person, and Mr. Okurut Albert who has been a teacher at JPSS from the beginning, over 14 years!
The roles of the board include:
(1) to govern the school;
(2) to administer the property of the school;
(3) to administer any funds, or things of the school derived by way of fund-raising or auction, on behalf of the school;
(4) to provide for the welfare and discipline of students and staff, and fix fees and other charges;
The board must perform its oversight role through monitoring the school performance (academic, financial and disciplinary), setting school strategy and resource provision for this. The BOG will work closely with our Headteacher Moses Bwayo, to accomplish the roles above. We look forward to ongoing partnership with the BOG as Friends of John Paul School continues our work to complete the campus needs for a future 1000 students.
The BOG has established the following sub-committees to allow for proper performance of its functions: (1) Finance Committee (2) Academics committee and (3) Discipline committee
The sub-committees meet separately to review various issues and topics, and bring their recommendations back to the full Board of Governors. These issues will then be voted on by the complete BOG.
The full Board of Governors will typically meet 3 times a year (once per term of school), with additional meetings scheduled as needed. To get off to a productive start, the BOG has already met 3 times and is planning another session soon. We thank them so very much for the time and talents they bring to JPSS and can’t wait to see what will be achieved under their leadership.
