Another School Year Begins…

On February 5, 2024, John Paul Secondary School opened its doors to our students who were eagerly waiting to get back to their studies and to see their friends again after their 2-month end-of-year break. They were warmly greeted by Fr John Chrysostom, Director, Moses Bwayo, Headteacher, and all the teachers.

When our students return to school after a long break, it’s much like moving back into a college dorm. They must bring all their clothing and personal items in one trunk plus they bring their own mattresses, linens, and mosquito netting. They are accompanied by their parents or guardians who bring them to school by bus or car and even sometimes by boda-boda. You can only imagine the activity on campus with hundreds of students registering and moving into their dorms! The BEST thing about this year is that the students will have a full year’s use of the new Multipurpose Building (Berrigan Hall). It can be used for student registration as well as a dining hall.  With the brand-new Comerford Family Kitchen up and running, the students are now able to get their meals and take them to Berrigan Hall for indoor dining! A first for them.

It’s a very exciting time at JPSS. The students have continued to excel in their studies and have great test scores, making JPSS the #1 Secondary School in the Pallisa District again. The school has gained additional popularity for this reason and more parents are learning about JPSS via our advertising in newspapers, radio, and the JPSS Marketing Calendar. This has brought many new students to JPSS from further distances and larger cities.

This year, thanks to Dr. Larry and Sue Hungerford, we will again be welcoming 12 new Hungerford Scholars into S.1. These scholars are local students who show great potential for furthering their education but are financially not able to go to private school. With the Hungerford scholarship, these students can attend JPSS from S.1-S.6 if they keep up their grades. This is a wonderful opportunity for these students, and we are all truly grateful to the Hungerfords for their generosity and support. Currently, there are a total of 65 Hungerford Scholars at JPSS!

As of this writing, we currently have over 650 students enrolled and expect there could be a few more. 😊

Stay tuned as we continue to update you on the progress of our students!!  We’re so proud of them!!
