A Promise to be Kept

From its inception, Friends of John Paul School has engaged interested individuals in raising funds for the school. Initially, there were many small events such as rummage sales, runs, Christmas bazaars, Scout projects – all designed to “spread the word” about the school and its vision of providing opportunity to the young people of Uganda. These efforts supported several benefactors who helped fund the Science center building, biology and physics labs, library, boys’ and girls’ dorms and the newly-expanded computer center.

Regardless of size and frequency, ALL donations have been and are today truly valued and most carefully utilized.

In fact, we proudly affirm that 97% of funds contributed go toward student and teacher programs and facilities.

It is the primary function of the non-salaried Board of Directors to examine ALL capital proposals and major expenditures. For example: during the pandemic school closings, the Board unanimously approved keeping teachers on the payroll because “it was the right thing to do.” This worked to the advantage of the students as the faculty made improvements to the curriculum, established new programs and designed methods of helping students bridge the gap of more than a year with no learning. Our students high rate of success in recent government exams more than justified that action.

Today, the Friends’ primary fundraising events consist of an annual wine tasting evening and participation in the national Giving Tuesday campaign. Because of its resounding success this past summer, we plan to make a virtual 5-K Walk, Run and Roll event annual as well. Smaller fundraising events continue during the year.

We simply could not achieve the ranking, reputation and excellent results of our students without the support of EACH member of Friends of John Paul School. Our gratitude and prayers for you are ongoing.

We hope these articles help you evaluate our request for funding and determine if our offering fits your charitable portfolio. Perhaps you can commit or strengthen your resolve to help us make a difference in the lives of Ugandan young people.
