Updates from JPSS

John Paul Secondary School Celebrates its 10th Anniversary!

Paul and I recently returned from our annual visit to the school.  It was wonderful seeing all the students again and to witness, first hand all the progress that occurred over the past year!

This year has been a very busy one at JPSS! The campus was expanded to include a beautiful new Teacher Housing unit.  This structure contains four apartments, each with its own kitchen. Two of the units are 2-bedroom and the other two units are 1-bedroom.  This building is a very important addition to the school as it will allow us to attract better qualified teachers to this very rural part of the world.

In addition to the new teacher housing, twelve new modern latrines were constructed; six for girls, 4 with urinals for boys and two for staff.

One of the highlights for the students this year was the official opening of the Computer lab with the installation of 25 new computers.  This was made possible when a powerful solar system was added to the Science Center providing electricity for the entire campus. JPSS is one of only a few rural schools which can offer computer studies to its students, thus making it possible for them to advance their studies in the world of technology.

We were extremely blessed to have Archbishop Emeritus James Odongo join us at the school to officially dedicate the new Glen-Dorie Teacher housing unit and the Anne Bidigare Computer Lab.  It was truly a very special and moving occasion for us and the entire community of Chelekura.

We are extremely thankful to Msgr. John Kauta, Fr. Henry Bahati, the teaching staff, the PTA, our Ugandan friends, Cissy and Denis, our wonderful contractors Vincent and Jude, and especially to all our many wonderful donors who continue to support John Paul Secondary School.

These past ten years have seen the school campus grow expeditiously, as has the enrollment!  John Paul Secondary School has certainly come a long way, but there is still work to be done!  We are confident with YOUR continued support John Paul School will continue to grow and provide a good Catholic education to the children in this rural part of Uganda.

Thank YOU for making this possible!

God bless YOU.
